How To Make Your Makeup Last
Have you ever wondered how to make your makeup last longer than 2-3hours? Have you ever applied your makeup like a pro only to have it looking patchy and rubbed off in less than 2 hours because of oil or sweat ? Well , I have. Especially because of sweat. I’ve always been on the lookout for a technique or hack that would help my makeup last longer. So when I stumbled on the powder before foundation hack , I was excited and sceptical at the same time. I understood that it could act as a sort of primer because I always set my concealer on my lids with powder and that helps my eyeshadow stick to my lids much longer. So I understood the science of it but I wondered if I wouldn’t get flashback or look whiter than usual because of the powder. So I decided to give it a try.

How did I do it? It doesn’t require any expertise or knowledge to do it. All you have to do is apply a translucent powder ( you can use baby powder) with a damp beauty sponge and go over it with your foundation. It’s important to properly prep your skin for this i.e use a moisturizer and then a primer before going in with the powder. Set your oily areas with the powder and not your overall face but if you’re oily all over , then set your whole face. In my own case , I have normal skin but at times I get oily on my nose but I sweat on my cheeks, chin and above my upper lip a lot so I set those places with powder and went over my birthmark with green concealer and then my foundation and every other thing followed. I used Kuddy Cosmetics HD setting powder and a damp beauty sponge.

Did it last? I applied my makeup by 12 and went to see Black Panther and then hung out with friends till evening and got home by 8. My makeup was still on and I had gotten a bit oily on my nose . I did sweat but not much and I don’t think it was because of the powder. So yes , it lasted for me for about 8 hours which I think is quite fair.

Did it give flashback? I took a picture with flash and while I didn’t look like Casper the friendly ghost, my face and neck didn’t match at all. Please forgive the blurry picture quality. This picture was taken by 6:25pm and you can see my nose had gotten a little oily and how white I was.

Would I recommend this technique? Yes! My sister who has oily skin uses this technique basically everyday and it helps her makeup last longer than it usually would. Jackie Aina, top beauty guru, uses it as well. It helps keep oil at bay but I don’t think it helps with sweat at all. So I’m still on the search for a technique or hack that would help with my sweat. If you know of any, please let me know.

Have you tried this technique before? Do you know of any other hack that controls oil or even sweat? Please let me know your thoughts in the comment section.
