I've been blogging for about a year now , but I haven't been consistent at all. I started getting consistent around August and even then I am still slacking. I haven't done as much as I have planned to. I've been facing challenges left, right and center.

Today I'm going to share some of my challenges and how I plan to beat them into submission.

Affordable skincare has my name written all over it. I'm currently retracing my steps back to get my clear skin back and I have been using affordable and natural items to achieve this. I had been hearing about the wonders of turmeric and I decided to give it a shot.

Turmeric has been used in skincare in India for centuries and everybody knows how Indians especially their girls age really well so if they recommend turmeric, I'm going to use turmeric. This turmeric mask is easy to make. You only need
  • Honey - few drops
  • Turmeric- a teaspoon
  • Milk - 3 tablespoons
  • Flour - 2 tablespoons
All you have to do is mix the ingredients together until it forms a paste. Apply onto your skin for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse off and follow with the rest of your skincare routine.

Benefits of Turmeric
  • It has antibacterial properties that help in the reduction of acne and it possesses anti-inflammatory properties that treat the inflammation caused by pimples
  • It's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory components contribute to the natural glow of the skin.
  • It is used in the treatment of psoriasis and other dermalogical conditions.
  • It reduces wrinkles, stretch marks and tan.
  • It helps with hyper-pigmentation.
Benefits of honey
  • It unclogs pores
  • It has antibacterial properties so it helps in the prevention and treatment of acne.
  • It is moisturizing and soothing and contributes to the natural glow
  • Its antioxidant properties help slow down aging.
Benefits of milk
  • Slows down aging , gives youthful glowing skin.
  • Helps fade dark spots and marks , reduces acne.
  • It unclogs pores
  • It reduces pigmentation , lightens tan and soothes sunburned skin.
With all these , you can see how beneficial this easy mask can be to your skin. After using this mask , my skin was glowing without even applying a moisturizer. I think everyone should definitely try this out. You'll be glad you did it. You can store the mask for later use like I have. This is definitely going to be a part of my skincare routine now.

Do you enjoy skincare? If so, please give me some affordable skincare suggestions you recommend. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Last month, I wrote a post on how to find your perfect foundation shade   and in that post I talked about how I had made a hasty decision when I was buying my most recent foundation. Well , today I'm going to be giving a full review on the foundation in question.

The LA girl pro coverage high definition long wearing illuminating foundation (quite a mouthful) claims to be ideal for a flawless looking full coverage finish. It also boasts of a lightweight formula that is comfortable for all day wear. The paraben free formula with added anti-oxidants helps hydrate and improve the skin's appearance. Does it live up to these claims however? Let's find out.

First things first , the packaging. It comes in a sleek transparent bottle and it comes with a pump attached and that's already an added bonus in my books because it helps to reduce wastage of product. It contains 26ml of foundation which may be a little less than the usual 30ml foundation bottle that most brands have.

This foundation gives a medium to full coverage so yes , they weren't bluffing about the coverage. It does not dry matte , it stays dewy and that gives such a beautiful natural glow. I absolutely love the finish of this foundation. I have normal skin so I don't mind the dewy look but if you have oily or combination skin then this might not be ideal for you but you can still make it work. That's what primers , setting sprays and blotting sheets are for. It does have a smell which you may or may not mind , I don't mind the smell. I'm yet to see a foundation that smells nice.

I wanted to test its longevity so I did my makeup on Sunday around 7am and by 9/10pm I was only a tad bit oily. Let's not forget that I don't have oily skin, so it may be different for my oily skin babes.

Finally, the price. It is extremely affordable. I got mine for about 3,500 at a makeup store in my city. That price coupled with the awesomeness of this foundation gives it my stamp of approval. I really love this foundation but the only problem I have is that I didn't get the right shade but I cannot just waste a perfectly good bottle of foundation. I have found a way to make it work for me. Please don't make the silly mistake I did , make sure you read my post on how to get the right foundation shade because you'll be glad you did.

In all, I would highly recommend this foundation if you have normal or dry skin but if you have oily or combination skin and you still want to try it out , you definitely can make it work for you.  LA girl cosmetics is quickly becoming one of my favorites , from the concealer to this foundation. I can't wait to try more stuff from them. You can buy this foundation here

Which do you prefer , dewy finish or matte finish ? Please leave me comments , I love to read them. Have a wonderful day.

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. ‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭29‬:‭13‬

October is breast cancer awareness month and I'm pretty sure you've been seeing this everywhere on the internet. The aim is to create more awareness for breast cancer , to educate people on the signs and symptoms and how to detect it at an early stage.
I personally don't know anyone who is fighting this battle but I know of some families that have lost people they love to cancer , not necessarily breast cancer and I know it's heartbreaking. Losing a family member in general is heart wrenching and its something you might never get used to, speaking from experience. So if there's any chance that just reading a few articles online , self examining yourself or going for a checkup will ensure that you are healthy , please do so.
Breast cancer doesn't just affect women , it affects men as well but it's quite rare. Even then , don't take a chance on your life. Get educated on the signs and symptoms so in case you notice any strange thing , you know where to go to as soon as possible. Early detection is vital! If you notice anything out of the ordinary around your breasts ,go to a clinic and get tested. It's better to go there and they tell you it's mosquito bite than for you to dwell in ignorance. The nationalbreastcancer.org provides ebooks on everything you need to know about breast cancer, just click on the link and get yours for free.

As a Nigerian, I know that some people will see this and say " It's not my portion In Jesus name". Even the Bible says "my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge, because you have rejected knowledge , I will also reject you as my priest " Hosea 4:6. So you had better pick up a book and read because Jesus has warned you.

To all those fighting this battle or you have someone who is fighting this battle , don't stop fighting and don't stop believing in your healing. God loves you because you are his child and He will definitely do what is right for you. To all those who may have lost people to this or any other kind of cancer , please find solace in Christ. He knows a thing or two about bearing pain and He can teach you if you ask Him to.

I hope I have convinced someone to take a step towards beating cancer. The most important step is educating yourself about it. Please don't joke around with this. I hope you like my #pinktober inspired makeup look too. Have a wonderful day today.

Finding the right foundation shade can be extremely tricky. Especially when buying online. I personally don't buy foundation online , I feel it's too risky. But there's a way around it , both buying the right foundation shade online and in actual stores and I'm going to be sharing a few tips that I've learnt over time and have served me well.

I recently got a new foundation and when I went home I realized I had made a great mistake because I simply refused to be bothered with following the steps I have always followed. This foundation is a tad bit lighter than my complexion, not my usual coverage and definitely not the right undertone. I'm never going to make such a mistake because I'm certainly going to be following these tips to avoid wasting money and my effort and time to mix this foundation to suit me properly.

• Do your research. Before splurging on that foundation that has caught your eye, make sure you do your research first. Find out the coverage , does it give a light , medium or full coverage. Find out the undertone it has ( make sure you know yours ). I may do a post on how to know your undertone soon , if you're interested please do let me know.  Find out everything about it that you can , read HONEST reviews, watch first impression videos from your favorite guru. After this research if you are still interested in getting it then you go and get it.

• When buying in a store , please try and go with a bare face so the foundation can actually be applied on your face and not your hand or neck which may be lighter or darker than your face. First of all, pick three shades of the foundation that you think you will most likely fall under. Then swatch the foundation on  the side of your face. The color that blends into your skin the best is your foundation shade. I highly recommend you go out of the store to check the authenticity of the swatches with natural light as the light in the store may not give you the best lighting. Another tip is to ask for a sample of that foundation if it is available but if it isn't make sure you do not buy it that instant. I advise you to leave the store and go about your day. As the day goes on, check if the foundation oxidizes (becomes orange looking) or if it gets oily. But if the foundation leaves you satisfied, you can go back the next day and buy it without guilt.

• When buying online , there are some apps and sites that give you shade references. For example, I'm an NC42 in Mac studio fix fluid and I want to buy the Kat Von D lock it foundation but I don't know my shade and it's not available in any store near me, I'll look up for sites like findation.comFindation.com that gives you options according to your previous shade matchings. Findation will basically give you a list of foundations and shades that will probably match your NC42 skin. After getting this shade reference, make sure you use a website that accepts returns because nothing online is ever 100% but if they don't accept returns , make sure they give samples. Test out the samples and if it works for you , then go ahead and buy it but if it doesn't , you won't regret any purchase.

These are tips I've learnt and used over time and I truly hope you've learnt something. If you have your own ways of getting the right foundation shades please let me know in the comment section because there's no such thing as too much knowledge. I pray you have a lovely week ahead.

Happy Independence Day Nigeria! Nigeria is 57 today. What a milestone! I have a love-hate relationship with Nigeria, as I'm sure most people have. I love the way Nigerians find humor in everything , in things as serious as recession, absent president , Ebola ,etc we always find a way to laugh in the midst of our problems . I also hate the stagnancy the nation is facing currently and I have a list of wishes that I have for our great nation. Think of them as birthday wishes.

Money is on everybody's mind. How to make it, how to keep it and how to spend it. There's a popular saying that "Money is slow to enter , but quick to go".  I've come to understand that money isn't actually quick to go if you understand how it works.

I have been hunting down The Smart Money Woman by Arese Ugwu ever since it was released last year. I finally got my hands on it when my roommate bought the book. I pounced on it with so much joy in my heart. Prior to reading this book, the first financial book I ever read that awoke my interest in finance was Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. Honestly, everybody should read this book , it changed my mindset and mentality concerning money completely. But that's not the focus of this post , today is all about The Smart Money Woman.
The Smart Money Woman tells a story about a lady , Zuri , who works with a real estate company and gets a six figure salary , drives a really nice car and lives in one of the nicest parts of Lagos . To all eyes , Zuri is a successful and rich lady but really she was broke and in serious debt. With help from her friends and other factors , she finally gets on the path to financial freedom.

The story has a Nigerian setting and though it is written from a female perspective, men can learn a whole lot from this book. I'm going to share just a few lessons I got from this gem of a book just so you could go get it yourself.

1) The first thing is the way we view money. Rich people and poor people have different ways of viewing money ; the poor see wealth as how much you earn but the rich see wealth as how much of the earned income that can turn into assets that will generate income.
Like with Zuri, her 6 figure salary is enough to make people with a poor man money mentality to assume she's wealthy but the person with a rich man money mentality will know she has no asset , so she isn't wealthy.  Develop a healthy money mentality. Figure out ways to create assets no matter how little you earn because assets pay you without you having to toil or sit in an office from 9-5.
2)  Do not go into debt trying to acquire things that aren't assets. If you can't afford it , don't buy it. Being able to afford something means , you can easily buy 3 of that item without breaking a sweat. For example , if you have 50k in your account and you want to buy a dress that costs 15k , then you can afford it because you can actually buy 3 and still have change but assuming you have 30k in your account , you cannot afford to buy it.
Borrowing isn't advisable to me but if you have to do it , make sure you're borrowing to obtain something that will give you money (asset).    Don't  go into debt or borrow to buy something that won't pay you. Don't borrow to pay for asoebi. Don't borrow to buy a car or phone. Don't borrow to look " fleeky" for an occasion , you get the drift abi? If you borrow to acquire an asset , you can comfortably pay off your debt from your passive income ( what you earn from your assets) but if you borrow to  pay for asoebi , you'll have to take our money from your own active income (money you work for i.e your salary) to pay back.

3)  Develop a sustainable budget. Use the smart money budget. Divide income into three. Divide it into a) long term financial goal b) short term financial goal c) living expenses.
Long term financial goal is a portion of your income set aside with the goal of improving your net-worth (assets). It can be 20% of your income. Short term financial goal is a portion set aside to treat yourself. It could be a new phone , car or even a vacation. It can be 10% of your income. Living expenses is quite self explanatory. This is the portion kept for your day-to-day activities, bills , feeding ,etc. This can be 70% of your income.  Now for a practical example, let's say you earn 60k a month. According to this budget , you'll set aside 42,000 which is 70% for living expenses , 12,000 saved towards buying an asset (20%) and 6,000 saved towards your treat (10%). Now this is just a guideline, you can fix the percentage anyhow you want but the necessary thing is to divide it into three.

4) Invest , invest , invest. Now I know the word "asset" can be scary especially if you don't earn a lot. Someone actually asked on Twitter how can I invest when I earn just 45k? Won't I eat?  Brothers and sisters , you have to eat. We all know assets are not cheap. But I'm here to tell you that you can invest as little as 5k and start earning from there. Most people don't know this. Investments come in different levels and forms.
The key is to find out what works for you. Research ! Stop using your data to just throw banters, jokes on Twitter and other platforms. There are various types of investments ; stocks (shares) , real estate (land) , mutual funds , treasury bills, etc.  Find a suitable one to fit your budget and your investment goals( why you are investing)
Another thing is to establish your investment goal and develop a strategy. Know how much you are willing to risk. Contact people in the finance world , ask them questions. Read books. Expand your knowledge.
5) Financial freedom is when your passive income can 100% sustain your lifestyle. When your assets alone can buy all your needs and wants comfortably, you are now financially free. This should be our goal. This is definitely my goal. One day I'll get there because I refuse to be broke forever.
I'm going to stop here but there are so many things I have learnt from this book. Believe me , you need this book in your life. You can get it from here. She also has her Smart Money journal available and Lord knows I need that book in my life. So do yourself a huge favor and get this book and the money journal too if you can.

Hey guys, I just came on here to share a simple DIY lip scrub. It's so simple to make and you only need two items that can easily be found at home ; sugar and olive oil (a.k.a anointing oil lol). This scrub works effectively to remove dead skin cells and dry scabs to unleash  the smooth lip within.

Hey everyone! Happy new month , how has July been so far? Thursday was my birthday and I'm grateful to God for life. Today I want to teach you how to clean your makeup brushes and sponges for cheap.

I've noticed that so many people don't clean their makeup brushes , not just because they don't know how to but also because they don't want to buy expensive brush cleaners. So today I'm here to teach you a few things. Cleaning your makeup brushes are very very important. Dirty brushes harbor germs that can cause acne or pimples and that's a big no no.

I like to think I'm a positive person. And in this present day and age with the advent of social media, it's a whole lot easier to encounter negativity because of social media. There are mean comments from people you've never met, gossip sites, negative images, etc.  Some people tend to allow these things to sink into their mentality and dampen their moods. This is such a sad sight to see because it's too rampant these days.
I am a positive person and I always try my best to remain that way. Because I'm positive doesn't mean I don't have my moody days but I make an effort to snap out of it before it ruins my day completely. I want to share my practical secrets or tips to remaining positive despite what life throws at you or what we see and encounter in the virtual world.

If you're in Nigeria , you would know we've entered the rainy season. Rain falls everyday and it gets annoying and can stop you from doing things you planned to do. So, we have to find a way around it because we can't wish the rain away.

I've had this highlighter for a long time now( over a year) and I've finally decided to share this gem with everyone because I'm not a stingy girl. It is the Elf sunkissed glow bronzer.

When I was younger, I thought 21 was such a grown up age but in reality, I still feel like a teenager. I'll be 21 really soon and I'm having mixed feelings about it. On one one hand , I'm super excited to turn 21 and on the other , I kinda dread it cause I feel it's taking me a step closer to becoming an old woman. However, I see this as a coming of age phase in my life. A time where I begin to shape myself into the kind of woman that I ultimately want to be. So in the spirit of turning 21, here are 21 things everyone should consider doing before or soon after they turn 21.

My favorite color of lipsticks are nude and red, but I lean towards nude more often and I definitely own more nude lip products than red. Nude lipsticks go with all kinds of makeup looks. The amazing thing with nude lipsticks is that there are so many colors and shades that can suit so many skin tones. The only tricky thing when it comes to nudes is finding the perfect nude for your skin tone. Today I'm going to share my top 5 nude lip products which are (drum rolls please) extremely affordable.

Hello everyone, I've been off here for over a month and it wasn't my plan honestly. I had exams and after the exams I wasn't really in a good space but I'm back and I'm better.

So in order to keep you guys up to date with what has been going on with my life, I'm going to do a little tag that I've seen some bloggers e.g Shirley Eniang and Ifeoma of whowhatfab do. I'm basically going to be telling you things I've been listening to, thinking about , doing , etc. So here goes.

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

Ever since I got this Ankara material , all I could think of was a makeup look inspired by it. The look came out exactly how I pictured it in my mind. This is my first time trying a half cut crease and I think I did well.

Friday, March 31, 2017

This was one of my purchases from the Port Harcourt Makeup Fair. I got it from the Gifty's Daughter stand for just 1000 naira. This is my first ever glossy lip product and it's safe to say that I've now fallen in love with glossy lips.

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

I kept seeing gorgeous  dark looks all over Instagram , so I decided to recreate it. This look was so simple to create. I basically used only two eyeshadows to create it, so anybody can do it. You just have to blend well and you're done.

Saturday, January 7, 2017

For my first official look on the blog, I wanted to do a smokey eye look with some color. So I decided to create this simple blue smokey eye. I feel smokey eyes and nude lips are the best combination ever.
You honestly can't go wrong with smokey eyes and nude lips, little effort (except you actually have to blend a bit) and you're good to go. I hope you guys like this and probably get inspired to try it out.
